» — HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY FORMED. fOUB OWN COBHEBPONDENT.I On Saturday evening a meeting, convened by Messrs H. Hunt and J. Gloyn, was lield in the Temperance Hall, Rongotea, to consider the possibility of forming a Horticultural Society. About a dozen enthusiastic supporters of the movement were present, the Rev. Mr Wilson occupying the chair. Mr Hunt, in moving that a society called the Rongotea Horticultural and General Produce Society be formed, drew attention to the fact that a con. siderable number who were unable to bo present had promised cordial support. He then briefly outlined the position, emphasising the value of such si society and also the wide stretch of fine .country from which support could be drawn. Mr J. Gloyn, in seconding the motion, pointed to the success of the Levin Society, which from quite a small beginning had become a recognised institution on the Coast. Rongotea and the surrounding district embraced all varieties of soil — sanely, clayey, loam, river silt, reclaimed swamp lands, and bush lands — and was, f ronir a horticultural point ,or view, a particularaly favoured spot. After the above resolution had been duly carried, ways and means were discussed. _ Messrs H. Hunt, J. Gloyn, W. Sanderoock, Jas. Penney, L. Airev, F. Wood, It. Amesbury, Rev. Wilson, and Mr W. G. Gibbs (secretary pro tern), witli power to add ta their number, were appointed a Provisional Committee. .
