Cambridge^ winning the toss, chose the Surrey side of the river, and at Harrod's soapworks had established a lead of half a length. Oxford came at them again, the boats shooting under Hammersmith bridge on level terms. , A neck and neck struggle for five minutes followed, ending in Oxford establishing a lead of half a length. R, C. Bourne (Oxford) stroked a grand spurt, and at Barnes' Bridge demonstrated' that his crew were better stayers, Cambridge being rowed right out. J>. C. Stuart (Cambridge) stroked a plucky spurt, which, "however, proved useless to avert 3efeat. Time, 19min. 50sec. [Oxford has only secured one win in the past eight races. Last year s time was 19min. 19sec.]
