The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Co., London, report on October 16 : Trad© d'uriug the week has beeai el a quiet but steady character and quotations show very little afltonvtion. Fairly heavy supplies were offered at the beginning of tliis week and buyers derived a small temporary advantage, but clearances have been effected and .holders are firm in spite of limited purchases. Buyers are naturally .acting with caution while- the unseasonaUly mild weather prevails. There is a good enquiry for beef of prime descriptions, but on the whole mutton in coming into more favour. Lnglish and Scotch sides of beef show some decline at sid to ogd per lb for the iormer and 6d to 6Jd per lb for tho latter Nortlx American chilled lands continue dear at 6id to 6Jd per lb, but supplies are very light. South American chiMed hinds are still V\* ntiful and cover the wide range of M& to 4-2 d per lb, while fores remain at 3Jd to 3gd per lb. English, Scotch and Dutch mutton all show a decline in value, but present prices are attracting more business. Pork is meeting a good demand with some improvement in values, and the enquiry for lamb has shown some signs of revival) . New Zealand mutton.— The only arrival during the week has been the Rinmtaka with 32,846 carcases. Tins moat is going steadily into consumption, and a fair trade is being done for the time of year, but no advance in prices can be reported. Canterbury sheei> are available and sell from 4jd per lb for good light carcases down to 3'] d per lb for heavy weights. There are no Southland sheep on offer, but North Tsllands are in adequate supply, selling at 3£d to 3|d pevr lb. Ewes are worth 3Jd to 3'Jd per lb. South American mutton.— Arrivals consist of El Argentino with" 35,091 carcases and Star of Ireland with 28,177 carcases. Argentine mutton is plentiful and secures the bulk of the trade. For good light sheep prices up to 3Jd are asked, but medium weights can be. bought at 3 3-16 dto 3jd per ■Uistrullian mutton.— Receipts have been Everton Grange 11,998 carcases and Mongolia 2485 carcases. This meat finds a very fair demand at about 3£d to 3?d per lb for the best quality and 3£d io S* t <\ per lb for average eareasos. Frown lambs. — Stocks have been increased by 33,695 carcases from New Zealand, 9461 caroascs from Australia and 4006 carcases from South America. The best quality lambs are .selling fairly f redly but secondary grades are not so much in request. Prices are very firm, and Canterburys have advanced in value about id per lb, making light weights worth o^d per lb and medium weights old to ojd per lb. North Islands are unchanged at ojd to sfd per lb. Australian lambs range in value from 4£d per lb for inferior carcases to 4i£d to 5d per 1:1) for the best. Frozen beef.— Receipts comprise 4857 quarters from New Zealand. 13,---941 quarters from Australia and 28,---837 Quarters from South 'Ameica. The supply of chilled beef militates to some extent against the sale of frozen, but prices hare been maintained and fores in particular are very firm. Some Australian beef is being placed on the market and selling at 3|d per lib for hinds and 3Jd per lb for fores, being about Jd per lb less than New Zealand and Argentine quotations.
