The following is the result of the rifle competition for the Government prize medals for 1908-9: Gold medal for best shot in North Island, Private George Farley, Victoria Rifles, 54 (possible 56); gold and silver medal for second best shot in North Island, Private T. A. Marett, TaTanaki Rifles, 51 ; silver medal for best shot in Auckland district, Private J. H. Parslow, No. 3 Company Ohinemuri Rifles, 51; silver medal for best shot in Wellington district, Corporal A. H. Armitage, Taranaki Rifles, 50; gold medal for best shot in South Island, Sergt. C. A. Hadfield, Blenheim Rifles, 55; gold and silver medal for second best shot in South Island, Sergt. H. E. Soper, Marlborough Mounted Rifles, 54 ;<- silver medal for best shot in Nelson district, Corpl. J. Webster, Denniston Rifles, 54; silver medal for best shot in Canterbury district, Sergt. A. J. Whitley, Kaiapoi Rifles, 53; silver medal for best shot in Otago district, Corporal R. Smithers, Oreti Rifles, 53.
