INTERESTING RETURN ON CLOSER SETTLEMENT. A return of estates acquired under the compulsory clauses of the Land for Settlements Acts has just been laid before Parliament. It discloses, tho following details:— Ardgowan Estate.— Price paid, £34,600; tax value £31,246; cost tf survey, £4252 19b lOd; number of tenants at March 31, 1907, 66; total receipts to date, £20,378 8s 7d. Hatuma.— Price paid, £114,000 ; tax value, £117,920; number of tenants, 62; receipts to date, £45,195. Kumeroa.— Price paid, £29,092 ; lax value, £21,680; number of tenants, 15; total receipts to date, £7580 13s 3d. Argyll.— Price paid, £158,031; tax value, £113,517; number of tenants at March, 1907, 62; total receipts to date, £31,004. Forest Gate.— Price paid, £48,521; tax value, £31,815; number of tenants at March, 1907, 28; total receipts, £11,882. Matamata.— Price paid, £127,515; tax value. £109,509; number of tenants at March, 1907, 178; total receipts to date, £18,318. Flaxbourne.— Price paid, £183,044; tax value, £120,509 ; cost of survey, etc., £22,309; number of tenants on March, 1907, 132; total receipts to date, £18,939. Lindsay.— Price paid, £96,206; tax value, £87,244; number of tenants at March, 1907, 67; total receipts to date, £10,443. Tawaha.— Price paid, £34,133; tax value, £27,736; number of tenants at March, 1907, 23;\total receipts to date, £1901. Waimana.— Price paid, £18,492 ; tax value, £15,596; (opened for selection on August 5, 1907). In the case of Flaxbourne, besides the price paid the owners retained land worth, say, £60,000.
