The Standard states that Mr Asquith's estimates give a surplus of £4,000,000. EIGHT HOURS FOR MINERS. Mr H. REPORTERS' RETURN. London, March 24. Reuter reports that Herr Groeber refused to apologise for calling the reporters "swinish louts." The journalists' boycott of the Reichstag continues. London, March 25. It is now proved that Henri Rochette's losses were greatly exaggerate _ cd. TRIBUTES TO THE DEAD LEADER. London, March 24. The Duke of Devonshire succumbed to pneumonia, contracted in Cairo and aggravated by the fatigue of the journey to Cannes. King Edward sent a message of condolence to the Duchess of Devonshire. The newspapers pay warm tributes to the late Duke. The Daily " Chronicle describes him as "a great Englishman." There are many signs of mourning in the localities wherewith the* Devonshire family is^associated. Lords Ripon, Lansdowne and Rosebery, in the House of Lords, and Mr Asquith and Mr Balfour, in the House of Commons, paid tributes to the late Duke's sincerity, conviction ' and devotion to duty.
