Gisborne beat Greenmeadows by 26 to 14 in the first semi-final, and now iiave to meet Palmeraton to decide who is to play St. John's, the winners of the A Section. Napier, March 22. The Carnival bowling competitions were continued on Saturday when, despite occasional heavy showers in the afternoon fair progress was made. The pkying-off of the tie for first place xn the B Section of the rink matches was proceeded with. G<isborne beating Greenmeadows (Badley), and Bluff HiJl beating Palmerston North (Bunting). The semi-nnaU between Gisborne and Bluff Hill resulted in an easy win for the former by 27 points to 10. A number of games in tho pair matches were played with the following results:— Tabuteau and Dean 16 beat Bear and Fletcher 13; Williamson and Ricketts 22 -beat Hay ward and Asher 18 ; Hindmarsh and Beatson 29 beat Miller and Patterson 17 ; Terry and Simm 21 beat Wrightson and Ruston 19,* Porteous and Goodger 23 beat Cochrane and Holdings 17 ; Ball and Yates 17 beat Smith and Treston 15; Dean and Tabuteau 23 beat Fox and Smith 17 ; Cunningham and Bunting 25 beat Rice and Thompson 15; Cowell and Williams 21 beat Smith and Hall 15; Simm and Terry 21 beat Beatson and Hindmarsh 19; Cowell and Williams 22 beat Simmonds and Currie 8; Yates And Bull 22 beat Cunningham and Bunting 14; Martin and Martin 17 beat Fielder and Holt 14. The final in the rink matches between Gisborne and Sjt. John's will be played on Monday morning. OUR ATHLETES RETURN FROM AUSTRALIA. Wellington, March 22. The athletes who so successfully represented New Zealand at the recent meeting in Tasmania and Australia; returned to Wellington by the Maitaa to-day. They were informally welcomed at the wharf by a number of enthusiasts. It is understood they will be welcomed on behalf of the city and dominion to-morrow. FREYBURG'S FAULT. Napier, March 21. In connection with t the 220 yds Swimming Championship to-day, a protest was entered against B. C. Freybuirg, who finished second, for not touching the rope. The protest was upheld, and E. J. Dawson, of Qtago, was placed second, and F. J2. Dodgo, of Christchuroh, third. THE PREMIER ON TOUR. Opotiki, March 22. The Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, continued hia eastern tour on Saturday and 'had a trying day of sixteen hours, practically continuously travelling. He delivered addresses at every district visited, including Matata, Wakatane and Opotiki. At tho last named place she addressed a crowded meeting in the local ball and reviewed the work or last session. The Prime Minister rested quietly ait Opotiki yesterday, and commenced the return journey at five o'clock this morning. He will arrive at Rotorua this evening and return to Auckland by to-morrow's express. jIN THE COURTS. Wellington, March 21. Mr Justice Chapman to-day sentenced Ronald Grant Gilbert, alias George Moore, to cix months' imprisonment, I with ihard labour, for theft, and a Maori youtih was ordered to come up | for sentence when called upon, on a similar charge.
