under date London. February 8: — The mutton market is weak, and there is no change in prices. The lamb market is quiet, Canterbury brands boing quoted at 6d per lfi. The beef market is steady, hindquarters being quoted at 3Jd, forequarters at 2cd per lb. . The butter market is very firm and excited, with strong demand at full prices,a nd supplies do not meet requirements. The market is active forf uture delivery, and there is little chance of anya dvance. The followinga re current quotations:-— New Zealand butter 1365, Danish 138s Australian 1325, and Argentine 132s' per cwt. The cheese market is firmer, but the prospects are uncertain. White makes are quoted at 6s, colored at 68s per cwt. The hemp market is steady, and there i 3 a better demand. Reports from Mamila indicate steady shipments for some time. Current quotations are for good fair grade on the spot £28, fair grade on spot £27 10s, fair current Manila on spot £28 10s, January-March shipments good fangrade £287, fair grade £27 ss, fancurrent Manila £28 TOs. The cocksfoot market is a shade weaker. Bright dressed^ seed, labs per bushel, is quoted at 755. The wool sales have closed, superior and medium merino being in active demand at full prices, but inferior grades were not in demand. The market is firm for fine crossbreds of allg rades, but for medium and coarse crossbreds, all grades, the market is dull. The following are the estimated values: — Superior merino Is to Is 3d, medium lOd to Is, Inferior 6£d to 9d, fine crossbreds, all grades, Is to Is 2d, medium 9£d to lljd, coarse 6id to 9d.
