The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1907. Feilding Technical School.
At last we are in a position to announce that arrangements have been completed for the Feilding Technical School. It was intended originally i that the site should be on the rail* ! way reserve adjoining the line, with ! the building fronting Kimboltou ' road, but the railway authorities found that, keeping in view future developments in railway matters, it would be impossible to allow such a large building to be erected, except at the Hobson-street end of the reserve. It was thought that it would be a pity to place the school in a back street, and so negotiations were opened up with the Manawatu Timber Company for the surrender of their lease of the half-acre section in Fer-gusson-street, adjoining the stationmaster's residence, aud, with a liberality which does the Company credit, this was satisfactorily arranged, and yesterday the contractor, Mr Wilkinson, commenced operations . The building is an exceedingly handsome one, and will add considerably to the appearance of that portion of the Borough, while its convenient position, so far as the railway station is concerned, will be an advantage to students who are travelling. We are pleased to be able to say that in the very delicate negotiations over the matter Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, M.H.R., and Mr E. Goodbehere, Chairman of the Technical School 1 Committee, have gone to no end of trouble to bring the matter to a satisfactory conclusion, while the contractor, Mr Wilkinson, has displayed a patience under trying circumstances which has conduced to the final result.
