HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
The House met at 2.30 p.m. Mr Massey moved tor copies of all correspondence between Mr and Mrs Eustace Lane, of Mawke's Bay, and the liands Department with reference to transfers of Crown lands and all accuments relating thereto.— Carried. Mr J. Allen moved that it is desirable to have an actuarial investigation ot the Railway superannuation JB unit before March 31, 1908. On a division the motion was negatived by 34 to 29. bJ£COND HIDINGS. The following Bills were read a seccnd time:—Quackery Prevention, Farriers, Lamps on Vehicles, Coal Mines, and Public and Bank Holidays. The latter measure provides that all holidays should be observed on Mondays when they fell on any other day of the week. NOXIOUS WEEDS BILL. The Noxious Weeds Bill was committed itu iVilford moved to limit the operation of the Act to the provincial district of Nelson. The Chairman ruled the amendment out of order. Mr Wilford moved to report progress in order that the SpeaWa ruling might be taken on the Chairman's ruling. On a division the motion was earned by 35 to 21. The Speaker then took the chair, and ruled that the Chairman's ruling was incorrect. It was quite in order to move to limit the operation of the Act. The Committee resumed, and Mr Wilford's amendment was put and carried by 31 to 27. Mr Colvin moved to report progress. The question of reporting progress was the subject of further debate for nearly half an hour, when the motion was agreed to. PURE FOOD BILL. The Pure Food Bill was further considered in committee. At clause 22, offences under the Act, section 1, "every person commits an offence who sells any adultered form or drug without fully informing the purchaser at the time of sale of the nature of such adulteration." Mr FowWs moved an amendment that the clause should be subject to such exceptions as may be prescribed by the Governor-in-Council. The amendment was carried and the clause passed. Clause 13 provided that it should be no defence that the offence was unintentionally oommited. Progress was reported ,and the House rose at midnight.
