(Our Own Correspondent.) ] There was a good attendance ; at the meeting of the Debating Club last Thursday, the ladies being in the majority. Mr McKenzie presided. There were several new members proposed. The subject for debate that evening was, "Which is the happier— the Barbarian or civilized man? Messrs Vaughan, Decke, and Mrs Matthews spoke in favor of the Barbarian, and Messrs Percy Guy, Dr. Gregory, Miss Levien and Mr Matthews spoke up for the civilized man, Mr F. Guy and Masters Duncan and Little also took part, and at the conclusion on a vote being taken, the Barbarian won the contest. Messrs Vaughan, Matthews, McKenzie and Dr. Gregory were voted to contest the debate against Kimbolton next week. Mr Guy will take the chair, and Messrs Fraser and Clark help with the judging. Mr H.,H. Steprens has been gazet : ted as Registrar of the new Apiti Registrar District.
