KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The above Council met to-day. Present—Crs. Carman (Chairman), Guthrie, Mclntyre, Fowler, Bruce, McNeill and Morton. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were received as follows: From S. Stawbridge, asking permission to take three yards of metal out of pit on Valley road. From H. T. Manning, contractor, asking Council to cancel contract No. 47, as he had been unable to finish by about 100 yards. This was owing to heavy rain making the pit approach so bad that he could only work eight days in four weeks. From A. Richmond, solicitor, stating that some years ago a caveat was lodged in the Land Transfer Office by the Council against several roads at Beaeonsfield. He asked the Council to remove same now. J From Rangitikei County Council, , stating that they would not make a j charge for "Mr M&ir's services on account of London's Ford Bridge. From D. Sinclair, who was recently injured while working for the Council, stating the Insurance Company had only given him insurance for two months, and that the doctor had told him he would be in bed for two weeks over that date. From W. G. Collie, Rewa, asking Council to assist him to metal an approach to his store at Rewa. From A. N. Oalpin, asking to be allowed to pay £1 a year lease for gravel reserve in the Mangawharariki viHiage settlement at Ruahine for the usual term, with the right of renewal. „. . , From H.- Fowler, Chairman of Kimbolton Cemetery Committee, with reference to metalling a road into the> cemetery. He said the Committee had recommended the road to be formed. The cost was estimated at £10. From F. Pooh, stating that.be was granted permission by Mr Reid, who was Chairman of the Council in 1894, to fell trees on the road in front of his section. He was allowed 30s an acre for the work, and he had never been paid. From R. O. French, Cunningham's, stating that the road over the Kiwitea river, on Mackay's Line, was in a dangerous state, and required immediate attention. From Southland County Council, stating that all notices about bridges should be advertised in papers, instead of being affixed to posts, etc. From the N.Z. Insurance Company, stating that the Council had to renew their insurances at tariff rate. From J. Thule and J. Kruger, Kawatau, asking the Council to get fence erected along Kawatau Valley road. From W. Phyn, stating that he had left a phaeton on the side of the road unattended on the sth of June till next day, in contravention of the bylaws. He had expected that the Council would prosecule him, or make that part of the district exempt by an alteration in the bylaws. From J. Bowers, stating that he was sorry that he could not take the position of ranger. From R. Bocknig, calling attention to the filling in of Waugh-street and asking the Council to erect a fence along it to keep cattle from destroying it. From J. E. Wallace, requesting to be allowed to erect » fence along the formation on the road to section 57, Block 15, Apiti. From Commissioner for Crown Lands, in reference to the bridge over the Oroua River, stating that «ie had forwarded the plans to the Pubilc Works Department. TREASURER'S REPORT. The Treasurer submitted the following report showing the condition of the several accounts to date: —General account, dr balance, £693 6s 3d; the following amounts have been received since last meeting: — Rates, etc., £127 10s 2d; cemetery, £5 12s 6d; Government grant, £5; total £138 2s Bd. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:— From general account, £759 Is 4d; Land Fund, £248 10s; Land Fund No. 2, £2 16s; total, £1,---226 8s lOd. RESOLUTIONS. The following motions were carTifid * —■■ That the Engineer be authorised to arrange with Mr Thompson to keep the Manaia road open ; also, the slip beside Messrs Cafrd Bros.' section be cleared, cost not to exceed £3. That Mr J. Wallace be given permission to erect a fence on the sMe of the road on the boundary of section 57, blosk 14. Apiti, to the satisfaction of the Engineer. That the N.Z. Accident Insurance T«r<»mn»m he passed for payment; a!s« that a further claim be sent to the insurance company on the account of D. Sinclair. That the Engineer be asked to make an estimate on the cost of taking off a corner of the cliff at the top of the Kawatau Valley road ; also cost of fencing along that part of the road; to be in by next meeting (Lest Sitting.)
