ADDINGTON MARKET.

Christchurch, June 12. At the Addington live stock market to-day there were large entries of fat sheep and lambs and fat cattle, and a moderateyarding of other classes of stock. There was a good attendance. Fat cattle sold at about last week's rate. Prime fatlambs were firmer, and pigs of all classes showed an advance. Ihcre was ah improved demand for the few forward store sheep on offer, and prime fat sheep sold well. Store cattle were almost unsaleable, but good dairy cows were in better request. Tho entry of store sheep consisted of a few lines of wethers and lambs, and small lots of aged ewes. Forward wethers and lambs improved to the extent of about Is per head, and other clases were unchanged. The principal lots sold were— 2l6 two and four-tooth wethers, 16s 4d to 16s sd ; 176 at 14s sd; 53 two-tooths, 12s 6d; 100 lambs, 9s lid; 33 at 9s 7d; 140 at 9s Id; sound ewes, 10s 6d to lis lid: aged, 5s 9d to 6s lid. The entry of fat lambs was not so large as the previous week, a number of linss being of prime quality, but the majority were not well finished. Tegs 18s 6d to 24s 9d, standard weights 14s to 18s, lighter lis to 13s 6d. , , l There was a fairly large entry of fat sheep, including some prime lines of both ewes and wethers. The sale opened well, prime sheep being well competed for, and maintained their values throughout, but^ towards the close medium and inferior ewes were easier. The range of prices was — Extra prime wethers, 32s to 40s: prime, 20s to 25s 3d ; lighter, 16s lOd to 19s 6d; prime ewes, 19s to 23s 9d ; medium, 15s to 18s 6d ; aged, lis to 14s 6d; merino wethers, 12s 8d to 13s lid: extra good, 18s 3d to 19s 6d. The entry of fat cattle totalled 276 head, the bulk being light and not well finished lots. The sale was about equal to that of the previous week, prime steer beef making 23s to 255, and medium 20s to 22s 6d per 1001 b. A line of 21 steers from E. D. Giles (Mount Parnasus) topped the market at £9 15s to £11 17s 6d ; other steers brought £6 10s to £11 ; heifers, £4 12s 6d to £7: and cows, £4 12s to £7 12s 6d. A good yarding of leal calves sold at 4s 6d to 42s 6d, according to size and quality. Store and Dairy Cattle. — There was a small mixed entry of store cattle, for which there was a poor sale. Small ycarling3 made 7s, 15 to 18-months 20s, 3-year steers passed at £4 ss, di-V cows 20s to 30s. There was a fair demand for good dairy cows, which sold at £7 to £9 2s 6d. Ordinary sold at £3 to £6. There was a moderate yarding of pigs and a keen demand for all classes, and prices all round showed a decided advance. Baconers made 50s to 70s for neavy, and 44s to 49s for lighter, equal to 5d to s}d per lb ; porkers, 35s to 48s, equal to 6d to 6Jd^ medium stores, 20s to 265 ; small, 12s to 19s, and weaners, 6s to lis 6d. Dunedin, June 12. At Burnside to-day about 1800 sheep were penned. There was a medium yarding of fair-quality sheep, with a few pens of extra good sorts. The sale opened at about fast week's rates, but hardened slightly as it proceeded, showing an advance of Is to Is 6d. Towards the finish, however, the sale slacked off again. Quotations. — Best wethers 20s 6d to 25s 6d, extra to 27s 6d, medium 18s to 218, light 16s to 19s 6d ; extra heavy ewes to 225, good 17s 6d to 20s, medium 15s to 17b. Lambs: About 1500 penned. The yarding was smaller than last week, and the quality also was not so good. In consequence the demand was much less keen, prices being easier by about Is per head. Quotations. — Best lambs 17s 6d to 19s ; extra to 21s, medium lis to 14s, inferior 9s to 10s 6d. Cattle: 285 yarded. There was a fair yarding, and prices at the beginning of the sale were much easier than the closing rates ruling last week, showing a decline of 5s to 6s per head. Quotations — Best cattle £10 10s to £11 10s, medium to good £9 to £9 15s, light £6 10s to £8, best heifers £6 10s to £7 10s. Pigs: The entry in fat pigs was a fair one, there being only a few pens of stores and suckers. All sorts in this line brought good prices, baconers showing a slight advance. Quotations — Suckers 9s to lis. slips 14s to 17s, stores 18s to 225, light porkers 30s to 37s 6d, heavy to 455, baconers 45s to 655, heavy baconers up to 655. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Masterton stock sale as follows: — We submitted a good yarding of sheep and a few cattle to a small attendance of the public. Prices for sheep showed an all-round increase on those ruling at the last few sales. A large yarding of good hoggets met with keen competition, as did forward conditioned empty ewes. The ewes in lamb were for the most part of inferior quality, and dragged somewhat at auction. A total clearance, with the exception of one small lot, was made. Quotations: — Sheep: Fat ewes 16s 3d to 16s 6d, forward conditioned empty ewes 13s lid to 15b 9d, ewes in lamb (medium) 12s 6d to 13s, cull ewes 6s 4d, 2-tooth wethers (good) 18s 4d. lambs 10s to 14s. Cattle: A small entry. Heifers in calf £2 10s, store cows £2 10s, calveß 9s to 15s. Pigs: Weaners Bs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report holding their fortnightly stock sale at the Blenheim Co-operative Yards yesterday. The yarding was small and bidding dull, except for wethers, which are in good demand. Breeding ewes and lambs are practically unsaleable. Prices : Wethers lis to 13s 3d, empty ewes 10s, ewes in lamb 4s Id to 13s, lambs 4s 3d to 9s. Abraham and Williams report on their Waikanae sale: — A fair entry of sheep sold at ruling rates. Store wethers 15s lOd to 17s, lambs (small) 10s Id, aged ewes in lamb 10s 6d. A good entry of steers came forward, but buyers were not there, and the bulk was turned out unsold. Messrs Kelson and Tripe's herd of dairy cows sold at very satisfactory prices. Springing cows £5 15s to £7, cows in milk £4 10s to £6 10s, aged cows £2 10s to £3 ss, cows out of profit £3 10s to £4 6s. Dalgety and Co. report on their Waipukurau sale:— We offered a good yarding of sheep and cattle to a large attendance. Fat sheep met with slack competition, and we must record a drop in prioe in this department. We made the following prices: — Fat cows £5 6s, 3 and 4-year-old store bullocks £5 12s fat wethers 20s 7d, fat ewes 13s 6d to 16s 7d, fat maiden ewes 18s sd, fat forward wethers 17s to 18s lOd. s.m. ewes in lamb 12s 10s to!3s6d.
