FEILDING DEBATING SOCIETY

>■ The land question was debated at he Foilding Debating Society's meeting last night, when there was a fair attendance. In the absence of the lYesident and the Vice-President^ the secretary was appointed to tho chair. The subject was— "That the ideal land policy is leasehold for the country districts, and freehold for town areas." Mr Thos. Watson led in the affirmative in a solid, weighty speech, and Mr H. Tolley replied with * <w address of great force, moving as an amendment — " That the only land policy is freehold for city and. country alike, with power to prevent the entailing of large estates. The subject was fought out with great spirit, the question being spoken to by the Rev. W. F. Stent and Messrs West, Tingey, Hopkins, Mayo, Higgin, and Fitzpatrick. On the amendment being put, the voting wa3 equal, and the Chairman gave nis casting vote against. The motion was then put, and lost by a large majority. For the meeting next Tuesday night, contributions to the Manuscript Journal will be received, and discussed. Contributions may be cither original or extract, and those on debateable subjects will be preferable. ■

It was incidentally mentioned at the Manawatu C. C. to-day that the • cost of valuation of the County was I £91 Is. ENGLAND v. GERMANY. It is the Pjano that has made this generation the most musical that has ever lived. Up to the present the German instrument has held sway but owing to the alteration in the tariff in the colony, you can now place in your home, a Sterling English Piano at a price that defies German competition. Some idea of the popularity of the English Piano may be gained from the fact that the Spencer Piano Co., one of the feremost English makers, have sold over three thousand of these instruments in New Zealand. The makers estimate that there are over fifty thousand of their instruments in use at the present time, of which fifty have been supplied to different ships of his Majesty's Navy. The price of these instruments puts them within the reach of all, as they can be delivered free to your door from £42 10b, or 22s 6d a month. All the Pianos are iron frame, full tricord, and have a patent check action, and in their model class IB at £42 you have a fulness of tone that is not equalled by many of the so-called semi-Grands, costing £60 or £70. The, London and Berlin Piano Company, who are New Zealand agents for these celebrated instruments, have made Mr- William Carthew, Feilding, agent, and he has full power to grant liberal terms to •purchaser. Mr Carthew has several Pianos in stock, and will be very pleased for anyone interested t*> oall and inspect the English Spencer, and see what the celebrities in the musical world have to jay about these world-renowned itiSfrdment: 1 . Pamphlets, Catalogues, Booklets, etc., printed with economy and despatch at the Stai offiou, FeiMing.
