MANGAWEKA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) The fourth annual ball of the Manga weka Rifle Club took place in the Oddfellow's Hall on Faiday, the 7th inst. The hall, tastefully decorated with flags, presented a gay and animated scene as the ladies in their dainty toilettes moved to and fro. At one end, on the stage, was displayed the W.G.R.C.C. Belt, won this .year by Mr J. Carr. The music by the Rangiwahia Orchestra was perfect, and the floor a dream. Much credit is due to the organisers for the beautifully arranged and tempting supper on the long tables in the dining hall. The dance broke lip about half-past three and was considered by all to be one of the be6t ( ; \er held in the district. The Railway ball takes place on the 26th inst. A cribbage tournament, forty a side, is to take place between the players of Mangaweka and Taihape towards the end of the month. A billiard match took place on Saturday between Mr T. Bragge, Australasian champion, and Mr Tartalani, Mangaweka. Mr Tartalani made a gcod beginning, but science prevailed, and Mr Bragge scored all easy victory. He afterwards gave an exhibition of fancy shots. There has been a good deal of sheep worrying in the district of late, and several farmers, despite the inclement weather, have been spending the nights searching for the delinquents.
