The High Court on appeal decided that the Commonwealth public servants are not required to pay income tax. SILK FOUND. Port Darwin, June 7. Engineer-Commander Silk, who was lost in the Northern Territory while out shooting with the Governor-Gene-ral's party, has been found, and except that he is in a weak condition he suffered little from his five days' wandering. Port Darwin, June 8. Engineer-Commander Silk was found by a black fellow, who tracked him for many miles. METHODIST CONFERENCE. (Received June Bth, 9.43 a.m.) Sydney, June 8. Enthusiasm ran high at the missionary meeting in connection with the Methodist Conference. £2353 was collected, including an anonymous donation of £100 a year for five years. CONSPIRACY TO DEFRAUD. A sequestration order was granted in the estate of Abraham Mverson and Maurice Myerson, merchants, trading as the American Shirt Co., and Phoenix Clothing manufacturers, who were arrested on a charge of a conspiracy to defraud their creditors. Evidence on behalf ;>f the petitioning creditors, who incljde a number of large city firms, set out the liabilities as over £25,000, assets £11,000. Myersons have been selling heavy stocks of goods at auction below cost price, drawing large sums from the bank, whereof no acocunt has been given in the books. THE TOMOANA. % Sydney, June 8. The Tomoana has been repaired, and has resumed her voyage to London. Melbourne, June 8. The High Court gave a majority verdict on the Income-Tax case. The Court to-day deals with an application to leave to carry the case into the Privy Council. MAIL CONTRACT. Sir John Forrest submitted the position in regard to the mail contract to the Cabinet, but no decision has been reached. Sir John Forrest states the Government wants to see the contract carried out. If it is to be varied he will refer it back to Parliament.
