RONGOTEA.
♦ (Our Own Correspondent.) At the last meeting of the Rongotea branch of the Farmers Union, Mr S. McKenzio was elected a member. Au offer, made by Mr E. Newman, of Marton, to give an address on the Land Bill was accepted, he to fix a date. The ijuestion of dealing with the rabbit nuisance was deferred to next meeting, owing to the poor attendance. Mr R. B. McKenzie incidentally mentioned that while driving between Himatangi and his home, he had noticed a large number of rabbits on the way. During the discussion of the Conference order paper, which contains proposals relative to the Land Bill, the opinion was expressed that in 1 case of limitation of area it ought not to be brought about until after several years of notice, so that agreements now in force would not be affected and large land owners would be able to reduce their areas gradually and not be forced to place their land on a congested market. The meeting could not agree on the proposal for the adoption of the rating *on unimproved value. The meeting was not in favour of giving further assistance in aid of emigrant!. The meeting was also opposed to the proposal to abolish trial by jury, and to the proposed amalgamation of branches.
