OBITUARY. There passed away at Palmerston North yesterday in the person of Mr Henry Short, one of the oldest and best known figures throughout the Rangitikei, Manawatu and Palmerston districts. The deceased gentleman, who was 66 years of age, had not been feeUng well for a few days, but up till Tuesday last appeared to be enjoying usual health, and it was not till Saturday evening that he took to his bed with an attack of pneunomia. Medical attention was obtained, but despite the unremitting care and attention of his family and medical adviser, he passed peacefully away at 9 o'clock yesterday morning. The late Mr Short was born in Little Hampton, in Sussex, and came out to Australia in 1862, subsequently removing to WeUington, New Zealand, where he became associated in shipping circles with his brother, Captain TWiUiam Short. Thirty-five years ago, Mr Short came to Sandon, where he had previously secured a holding, and he successfully carried on farming pursuits for iu years, and 25 years ago he wnwveci to Palmerston, where he carried on operations as a builder. He had lived during the whole of that time within a stone's throw of his present home. Mr Short was noted among his associates for his kindness and unfailing good humor,never a dull moment being experienced while in his company. Mr bnort hS been marriedV 46 years, and leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters to mourn the^r loss. Mr Alf Short, carpenter, of Palmerston, is the oldest son; Mr Geo. Short, jeweller, of Feilding, the next eldest Mrs Shelton, of Taihape, m the oldest daughter, and Miss Lottie Short, who raifes at home, is the youngest.
