FOXTON SUB-UNION.
SANDON (4) v. AWAHOU (3). (Our Own Correspondent.) A match between Sandon and Awahou was played last Saturday afternoon on the Sandon grounds, in good weather. The game was one of the fastest and most exciting played on the local sports ground. There was a very hard wind blowing, and Sandon won the toss, thus procuring a considerable advantage. From the moment Awahou kicked off Sandon swept them down to the goal posts, and T. Richardson potted a penalty goal for our boys. The play then became very rough and fast, but no more scoring took place before half time. On renewing the contest, it was noticed that one or two men on both sides bad got knocked out, but the rest fairly fought for the mastery. Awahou were now getting the advantage of the wind, and kept the Blues hard pressed until T. Richardson started a passing run, which ended in Hartley getting over the line, but Mr F. Robinson (the referee) said there was a pass forward, and so did not allow the try. This little incident fairly roused our boys to workj which was also the means of sharpening up their opponents, and Spiers scored a try for Awahou, making the score-y-Sandon 4, Awahou 3, which was maintained to the end. It was a difficult matter to single out any man in the Sandon team at> superior to another, because. I a.n convinced every single man did splen did work for their first game of the season; also J. Sanson, who had not played this year before. T. Richardson was again conspicuous for his good play, also W. Mclntyre and Lobb. Albions beat Rongotea by 31 points to 3, at Foxton.
