[PUI P&B8S ASSOCIATION.} Auckland, Monday. At the conclusion of the cup matches on Saturday, twelve Auckland players —G. Tyler, Dunning, Seeling, Francis, Nicholson, Cunningham, Trevarthen, G. Smith, R. Wynyard, R. Magee, G. Gillett and Todd—nominated for the North Island team, were called together by the Management Committee. The Chairman explained the nature of the declaration required by the New Zealand Rugby Union, and each of the players, in turn, waß asked to sign ,and all refused. They stated that they would not be bound by the conditions laid down. • They did not see why the New Zealand Union should ask them to sign such a document. In one or two instances the players intimated that they had no intention of becoming professionals.

Out of eight Otago men nominated for the inter-Island Rugby match, the following six have signed the declaration that they will not have anything to do with a professional team: — Booth, Eckhold, Dansey, Paton, Oasey, Pitzpatrick. All the four "All Blacks" selected for Otigo viz., Booth, Casey, McDonald, and Johnston, were asked to sign the declaration issued by the New Zealand Union, and did so, so they were selected for the in-ter-island match. Auckland, May 26. The Auckland Rugby Union District Cup competitions were continued yesterday in showery weather. The ground was greasy, and consequently the exhibition of football was not up to the standard. There was a fair attendance. Parnell defeated North Shore by 22 to nil. City were superior to Grafton by 27 to nil, and Ponsonby triumphed over Newton by six to nil. Christchurch, May 26. The Senior football matches yesterday resulted:— Albion (20) beat Old Boys (12), Sydenham (18) won from Merivale (nil), Christchurch (3) beat Linwood (nil) ; Canterbury College a y6 * Dunedin, May 26. Results of the senior football matches : — Zingari-Riohmond beat Taieri Rovere by 14 to 3, Southern beat Alhambra by 13s to 9, University beat Kaikorai by 33 to 3, Dunedin beat Pirates by 6 to 5, and Port Chalmers beat Union by 18 to 0. Masterton, May 26. Senior championship.— Carterton and Masterton played a draw, no score ; Star beat Gladstone by 6 points to nil. _ . , Wellington, Saturday.
