CORRESPONDENCE.
FIRE BRIGADE. to thb anraoa. Sir.— At one of our recent fires in > Denbigh street, the Brigade were unable to use more than one jet of water to cope with the fire, as it was found the unions which were required had been taken to Christchurch to praotice with for the Demonstration. We have not heard how the Brigade have dealt with the person responsible for taking such plant unbeknown to the rest of the Brigade. Now, air, it seems strange that one man can do as he likes. In the event of a fire in one of our two-storey buildings, the Brigade will find thftr are minus their 25ft ladder, which has been in Mr Cleland's yard, standing against a tree for two months to my knowledge, out in all weathers. I think - it a great error on the part of the Brigade that such a state of things should exist, And the sooner the Bnfade see it in its right place the etter. for, if it is required, they will be left in the lurch the same as they were in the Denbigh street fire. I must say whoever is responsible for the plant do not bother themselves very much, or plant would not be missing from the station many days. — Yours, etc., - RATEPAYER.' May 27, 19Q7.
