FARMERS' UNION EXECUTIVE.
The Executive met at Palmerston yesterday, Mr J. G. Wilson presiding. Present. — Messrs W. J. Birch (Marton), J. 0. Bidwill (Featherston), H. A. Nevin (Tenui), H. J. Richards (Levin), D. H. Guthrie (Rangiwahia), and A. E. Russell (treasurer). Apologies for absence were -received from Messrs J. Peat and W. Perry. The President reported that Mr Cooper and Mr Matheson were engaged on the Land Bill campaign in the South Island. It was decided to bring the matter of forming rifle clubs in connection with Union branches before the Conference. Mr Fowler, the organiser, was present, and gave a report of progress made in the district, stating that several new branches had been formed, ■ and generally farmers were taking ' more interest in the Union. Farmers also expressed appreciation at the ac- ■ tion taken by the Executive in opposing the proposed Land Bill. i Resolved to place the following rel solution upon the supplementary or- • der paper: — . From Tenui Branch, advising that i some universal plan for the earmark- > ing of sheep be adopted. From Horoeka Branch, asking that ■ the Department be urged # to throw i open for selection certain Crown - lands on the Eastern side of the Pul cketoi Range, as the land is useless I for forest or scenery reserves.
