He gave a thousand guineas a-piece for several merino rams, while ewes averaged 120 guineas each. LABOUR LAWS. Speaking to a deputation to the Chief Secretary in connection with the Wages Board, Mr Prendergast, Leader of the Labour Party, said be had changed his mind on some things, and he now preferred the Wages Board to the Arbitration Court. The Boards enabled the trades to get to work quickly in fixinig conditions of labour. BEN TILLETT. Adelaide, May 16. Mr Ben Tillett, Labour Leader, has arrived on a health visit. AN EXPERT'S OPINION. (Received May 16th, 10.21 a.m.) Sydney, May 16. Major Long states that the tinned meat industry of New Zealand is too small to permit of an extensive business being done. A DOG ON A CHAIN. Mr Carruthers, in a speech at Molong, said that before Federation he had believed they could trust, the other States, but now he had discovered his error. "The Federal Parliament," he declared, "had given treatment to this State which wxrald not be given to a dog on the chain.
