ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
[per press association.] Carterton, May 14. Wallace Smith, aged about 70, fell from his horse into Papawai creek and was drowned. Deceased was a son of Captain Smith, R.A., who came out for the New Zealand Land Co., and was the first SurveyorGeneral in the colony, and was con nected with the early South Wairarapa Settlement. Timaru, May 13. Edward Walron, a lad about 18 years of age, whose parents reside in Auckland, last night fell from the rigging of the barque Kassa, just prior to her entering port. The jad fell 70 feet and sustained severe "injuries. Wellington, May- 14. A man about 40 years of age walked into a timber yard in the city today, and sitting down, died in a few minutes from heart failure. His clothing was the kind usually worn by seafaring men. On the body was found a discharge from the steamer Buapehu, made out in the name of Albert Hiliier. Dunedin, May 15. The body of a man found in the Molyneaux river, near Beaumont, is believed to be that of Thos. Scott, who was drowned at Cromwell six weeks ago.
