[PCB PBKSB ASSOCIATION.] Chriatchuroh, May 15. Alley's boat sheds on the nyer Avon were burned yesterday. The building, was not completely destroyed. The fire occurred in the upper storey, where a stove had been used for bending timber. The boat building sheds were insured for £600 j in the Liverpool Office. The seals exhibited at the Exhibition were liberated at New Brighton yesterday. The largest put out to sea immediately, but the more tame ones came ashore again. Finally all went out. Auckland, May 15. The committee appointed by the big Maori meeting at Waahi has leoided in favour of selling the Moerangi block of ten thousand acres to the Government and devoting the proceeds, after defraying the cost of survey, etc., to a fund for the Native Farmers' Union. The decision will be forwarded to the Native Land Board for confirmation. Wellington, May 15. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, after holding a searching inquiry into the charges made by the New Zealand Times against the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association of receiving secret commissions and giving trophies of less than advertised value, has found unanimously that the charges have been completely refuted. The Committee also found the charges were made on a misapprehension on the part of the gentleman who suplied the information to the press. Wellington, May 15. The local Industrial Association, after" some 18 months' deliberation and discussion, has sent in a report to the Government which embodies the decisions arrived at. The report includes the recommendations received from other Associations. Generally speaking, it is in favor of taking off or reducing the tariff on some articles of food— sugar, for instance, by 3s per cwt. To protect the engineering industry, a tariff of 33 1-3 per cent, is suggested on machinery, which can nowJbe made with advantage in the colony through the patents having expired. An increase is recommended on candles, the manufacture of which is said to be languishing under the present tariff. Dunedin, May 15. The case brought against Mr L. Hooner, philatelist, for having dealt in official stamps without being licensed, was dismissed. Mr Widdowson held the evidence was not sufficient to prove the offence charged. Auckland, May 15. Suspicious circumstances in connected with the death of the girl Minnie Kitchen, who died rather suddenly on Monday have induced the authorities to adopt unusual precautions, pending a bacteriological examination to ascertain whether the cause of death was blood poisoning. Strictest measures have been taken m enforcing quarantine. Hastings, May 15. The following are insurances for laat night's fire:— S. Bone, Imperial Cafe, £400 in the Phoenix, estimated loss £600; Faulkner, dentist, had £300 over stock in the Liverpool, London and Globe office; Halse. manager Bank of New Zealand, £'200 in North British on his furniture; Faterson, Mossman and Co. were uninsured, and lost £50. Wellington, May 15. At the Supreme Court to-day Charles Vincent charged with indecently assaulting a boy, was found guilty, and sentenced to three years imprisonment, and order to receive 1 Christohurch, May 15. In the Supreme Court to-day the oase is being heard against Smithers, alias Hehir, charged with attempting to murder Nellie Jackson in Moorhouse Avenue some weeks ago. The evidence is a repetition of that given in the lower Court. Michael Wall, found guilty of stabbing a man with a knife was' recommenced for piobation. Sentence was deferred.
