The Feilding Star, Oroua and Kiwltea Counties Gazette TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 1907. Fire Prevention.
• It is to be hoped that the suggestion j to adopt the Fire Brigades' Act in the j Feilding borough, for the purpose of ! placing tho provision of funds and the t control of the Brigade on a satisfac- ! Tory footing, will be carried to fruition without delay. It has always been a genuino grievance that the whole cost of fire prevention has been a burden oil the local body, and that tho insurance companies and the Government, who benefit materially by the operations of an efficient Brigade, contribute nothing either to the cost :of plant or the maintenance of the ! Brigade. It is impossible to expect the work of fire prevention to be cari ried out thoroughly, unless the very | latest and most durable appliances are i in use, for sometimes the saving of a 1 few seconds will mean the prevention '. of thousands of pounds' worth of ! damage, while the fact that the Bri--1 gade's equipment is of the very best inspires tho men handling it with a confidence nothing else could give. ' The system of government provided 1 under the Act gives those who find ! the money the control of its distribuI tion they have a right to, and we look I forward with confidence to an alterai tion in the administration of the : Feilding Fire Brigade affairs which I will tend to greater satisfaction for ' everyone interested than could pos- ! sibly be the case under any other cirI cumstances.
