A FINE BUILDING.
Visitors to Jfeilding are invariably impressed by the line premises erected and occupied by the leading business firms of the town. These evidences of enterprise and faith in the future of the district cannot fail to enhance the reputation of Ft'ilding as a centre of commercial activity and advancement. A notable example of this progressive spirit is seen in the handsome tow -storey brick building, recently erected by Messrs Bramwell Bros. A irontage of 66 feet to Fergusson street is divided, on the ground noor, into 3 roomy entrances and 6 large plate-glass show windows, covered by an effective glass verandah on neat iron pillars and steel frame. The second storey elevation is broken by 5 large windows, with heavy mouldings and canopies, and surmounted by lofty crescent parapets which complete a front elevation of particularly attractive appearance. Stamped steel ceilings of new design are largely used in the lower storey, which is lofty and well ventilated. The show cases and shop fittings are well designed and up-to-date. On this floor are located the Grocery, Hardware, Enamel and Brushware, Crockery and Glassware, and Furnishing departments of Messrs BramweH's extensive business, together with the firm's private office, the accountant's office and commodious packing room. Two handsome staircases of easy grade give access to the second floor which is used as Furniture, Wallpapers, and Hardware showrooms, ond Grocery bulk store. At the time of our reporter's visit the floor space of .0280 sq. feet was completely occupied though there is considerable stock still to be brought across from the old premises as well as shipments of new poods arriving by English and American steamers now due. At the rear of the brick building, a fine store of two stories has been erected for the handling of produce jind heavy goods. This gives a total floor space of GfioO sq. feet which this progressive firm now occupies, and, if the rapid growth of the business continues, further extension will !>e necessary before long. This fine block of buildings was designed by Mr Alex. James, architect of this town, and the contract, just finished, was carried out very satisfactorily by Messrs Gilbertson and O' Megan, builders.
