Pictures and articles of vertu to the value of £50,000 were stolen, including Gainsborough's picture of i Nancy Parsons, and Reynolds' pori trait of Mrs Charles Yorke, valued at £20,000, and which were unskilfully cut from their frames with a carving knife.
