FIRE BRIGADE.

' A meeting of the Feilding Fire Brigade was held last night. Captain Cleland was in the chair, and sixteen members were present. A letter was read from J. G. Gilberd, secretary of the United Fire Bligades Accident Association Society, enclosing cop yof rules of the Association, copy of general conditions for Fire Brigade competitions, and instructions in reference to sending delegates to the annual Conference, and the Bi-annual Demonstration, at Christchurch, on 18th March. A second letter from J. G. Gilberd dealt with the subject of the election of Captain Cleland, stating the Hawera Brigade were to blame for electing Mr Cleland to their Brigade before seeing a clearance from the New Plymouth Brigade. J. G. Gilberd also wrote, asking for the clearance granted to Fireman Cleland by the Hawera Brigade. Captain Cleland stated that he had seen Mr Gilberd since the letter was written, and had shown him the clearance. It was resolved to send a copy of the clearance to Mr Gilberd, for the perusal of the Executive of the Association. The Secretary was empowered to procure the necessary passes for delegate, team, and emergency man at the forthcoming demonstration at Christchurch. Fireman Saywell proposed that a 25ft ladder be procured. — Carried. Fireman Parker said he considered the time had arrived when the Feilding Brigade should get the best appliance for coping with a fire. He proposed that six sets of couplings and the necessary accessories be procured. Seconded by Fireman Saywell. who agreed that Feilding should bring itself into line with the best brigades in the colony. The motion was carried. Rule 5 of the Temporary Rules was suspended for 15 minutes, to allow probationers, who had not served their full term ? to be elected members at the meeting. Probationers, A. Watson, W. Harford, J. Martin, O. Hart, W. Hurdle, J. Jacobsen, B. Jacobsen, G. Garrett, and J. Marston were elected members. The full strength of the Brigade i«j now 20 members. A Committee, consisting of Captain Cleland, Fireman Saywell, Secretary Fitzgerald, Fireman G. Hurdle tnd Wilson, was appointed to draft a set of rules for the working of the Brigade. The Secretary reported that Fireman Linton, whfUiad sent in an unsigned resignation, had refused to sign it. After discussing the matter, it was decided to ballot on the question whether Mr Linton should be reinstate! as foreman of the Brigade. The ballot resulted in a tie, and the casting vote of the Chairman was given against the acceptance of Mr Linton as a member of the Brigade. 11. Burne was proposed as a probationer. The meeting then terminated.
