The Finger -Print System.
The greatest development in criminal detention has had attention drawn to it by the conviction of a burglar in this colony entirely by means of the finger-print system. It is a vonderful thing that the identity of a man can be sosurely established by means which are actually more conclusive than ordinary photographs. The fact that this system adds another terror to wrongdoers is a further safeguard against the depredations of criminals to whom other folks' property is not in any sense sacred, and it is a pleasure to be able to record the state of efficiency to which this portion of crime detection in the colony has been brought. There is so much crime unpunished because of the difficulty of tracing the perpetrators, that any narrowing of the avenues of escape must be welcomed by all who believe that owners have some right to their own possessions.
