The Railway Service.

We referred briefly recently to the necesity for an early morning train from Feilding to conect with the Manawatu train to Wellington, but there were sereral advantages such a service would confer which we did not touch upon. For instance, there is now no connection with the train which leaves Palmerston at 8.15 every morning for Woodville, connecting there with the trains to Masterton and to Waipukurau, but if our suggestion were adopted it would be possible to leave Feilding in the morning andVumrney as far as Masterton, speudijig five hours there, and return the same evening. Or the tiaveller could go as far as Waipukuru, spend an hour there and return the same night. Then, on Mondays a connection could be made with Foxton, for the train thence loaves Palmerston at 9 a.m. and does not return until 3.10 p.m. So that the advantage of an early morning and a late night service would be that a connection would be established by the one train each way with the Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Foston districts, which are cut off from here, except for a two days' journey. Then^here are other and, perhaps, just as important considerations. Stock could be sent right through to their destinations iv the daytime, while the Borough abattoirs at Feilding would have an easy connection in the early part of the day with a very large area of country. We have reason to beliove that the railway authorities look with some favour on the proposal, but in the absence of any local enthusiasm on the subject, they are not anxious to take the lead. Now that summer is approaching the matter is of more importance than in the winter-time, ami we hope that 1 local residents wjli recognise the necessity of taking stops to bring the proposal to fruition.
