» .iiii The Newport Matoh. Telegraph Press Association Copyright London, Jan 29. The Daily Mail says thai either the "All Blacks" met foeman in South Wales far more worthy of their steel than they met elsewhere, or else the strain of their tremendous tour was beginning to tell the inevitable tele. They were hard pat to it at Newport. The visitors left by far the hardest and most difficult part of their task to the end of the tour. "It ia asking too much of even so wonderful a football phalanx as they undoubtedly are, that after a protracted and exhausting experince of hard fought encounters they should retain all - the pristine freshness. There was little to choose between the teams at Newport so far as the aotual balance of play went. They might have wou jast as well as the New Zealandera. After two fine efforts to score Roberts set his other wing in motion and the ball came from Stead to Deans, to Harper and the latter swerved most artistically round Griffiths and scored the first and only try of the game. Harper failed to convert, but a few minutes liter Wallace dropped a magnificent nenaltjy kick from nearly half-way. It seemed as if the Colonials, contented with this advantage, were •eldom dangerous afterwards. In proportion as they fell off, Newport unproved, and in the second half they were in their opponents territory most of the time and the Colonials were fortunate in possessing a lead of six points. Wallace's ooolness and splendid kicking saved his side from disaster more than onoe. He, Roberts, Seeling, Tyler, and Mynott played a great defensive game/ 1
