The main event at the Carnival to-day was the races, but a number of shows were on tonight, and the main portion of the pity was illuminate^. The 27th Conference of the Fire Brigades' Association has commenced. About 100 delegates are present. The executive's report shows a balance of assets over ljabili ties of Ll6B 12s 3d. Disappointment is expressed at the shelving of the Fire Brigades Bill. In the competition conditions Rule 12 was altered making provision for protests It was resolved to set up a special committee to select events to count for the high pressure and manual contests. This Day. At the Fire Brigade Conference yesterday afternoon the AttorneyGeneral was advised that the Gov ernmenfc proposed to introduce a Fire Brigade's Bill early in next session. A committee was appointed to make inquiries into the various claims of members for long service medals. Captain Eagleton, Napier, read. 4 paper on the suppression of fires. Four gold stars were presented to members for 25 years' service. The resolution in competition conditions Rule 12 was altered to read " That either party shall have the right of appeal to the Conference against a decision of the protest committee." The rule in regard to the highest aggregate points was altered. Remit from Greymouth— To recommend that the ladder face \>% won in pairs against tim.e was agreed to. The Seoonds Conference was continued this forenoon, and will probably dose today. The eleotion of officers is proceeding.
