HOSPITAL DAY.
A large number of the townspeople assembled in the Council Chambers last evening for the purpose of arranging to hold an Hospital Day in Feilding. Mr F. F. Haggitt (Mayor) presided. Correspondence was received — From the Secretary of the Feilding Athletic Club, granting the request to permit collectors on the ground at the Boxing Day Sports. From Mrs Shenvill, offering her assistance to the project, and offering a suggestion that a series of concerts might be arranged for Saturday nights at the small charge of 6d for admission. — A resolution was passed thanking Mrs Sherwill. A letter containing a donation of one guinea was received from Mr P, Thomson. The Mayor reported that Mr Hugh Burrell had offered to donate two guineas to the fund. A hearty vote of thanka was accorded the donors. Mr Goodbehere explained at some considerable length the workings of the Hospital and how it was proposed to raise the money required to complete the additions for which the contracts have already been let. (These particulars have already been published in the Star.) In discussing what steps should be taken, Mr Harford suggested that a circular be sent to each resident in the district. Also that it be notified that they will be waited upon for their donations on a certain day to be fixed. The Mayor thought that some people in Feilding might also be induced to give an annual subscription. Mr J. W. Bramwell thought that the sending out of circulars would be sufficient as every one would give something, and there would be no difficulty in raising a substantial sum. He favored a strong committee being set up. All present were then elected a general committee. In addition to the organisers, Messrs Haggitt and Goodbehere, the following were elected an Executive Committee :— Messrs Atkinson, J. W. Bramwell, R. Burne, Harford, Cottrell, Rev. Lawry and Mr Richmond. The following Ladies' Committee, with power to add to their number, and to act with the Executive, was elected : — Mesdames Prior, Spence, Monckton, Sherwill and Fetah. The Rev. Innes Jones considered that the sending out of circulars should be the first consideration, and if a suitable response was made, that it would be unnecessary to hold the garden fete. It was decided to send out the circulars as suggested, also to make collections on Xmas Eve and at the Boxing Day Sports. A vote of thanks was passed to the Feilding Athletic Club. The meeting then terminated. At a meeting of the Executive held subsequently Messrs Harford and Burne were elected joint secretaries.
