LIQUOR TRAFFIC.
TO THE BDITOB. Sib,— -Mr J. C. Thompson, in quoting Archbishop Ireland on : the liquor traffic, concludes his remarks by saying : " Allow me to add that many priests in Ireland also, in A like manner, are becoming apostles of temperance." I think when Mr Thompson * starts' in to tell your readers what Catholic priests teach, he is getting beyond his depth, and is as badly informed on that question as he is on many others. Allow m» to inform Mr Thompson that the Catholic piests, not only in Ireland, but all over the world, have preached temperance from the foundation of the Church, and are still preaching temperance, but not prohibition ; and if all ministers of religion were to preach temperance as diligently as Catholic prieats do, the prohibition advocates' occupation would be gone. Now, if Mr Thompson would make himself better acquainted with the teachings of the Catholic Church he would find that Catholic priests have no time for fads, but devote their energies to the advancement of all virtue, and the condemnation of all vice, and he would also refrain from " covert sneers." I am, etc., John Wilson. Makino, August 28.
