1 The hemp market is very quiet 7 and there is practically no business I doing locally. A fortnight ago then was some hope of revival because o: ' enqniries, but there has been a re lapse since, with August Octobei ' shipments quoted at £28 c. i. f. 1 which means about £24 10s f. o. b. 1 Wellington. The price is not un ! profitable as millers have working expenses and royalties well in hand Butter is promising well. Reports from all sides emphasise the improved ' prospects, and endorse the optimistic k opinions that have been advanced it ! this column. The High Commissioner reports that the prospects foi the season are more favourable than last year, and Messrs. W. Weddel f and Co., in their annual review, express the belief that a higher level ol prices, probably an average of 7s 6d per cwt. above last season, will be \ obtained. Danish butter is quoted this week at 121s, a3 against 114s at the corresponding date of last year.
