Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright Dunedin, August 27. A fire broke out early on Saturday evening in the drapery and clothing store of J. Watson, junr., Port Chalmers, and the building, which is of stone and brick, was completely gutted. The fire started through the boy lighting the gas in the shop window and dropping the match among inflammable show goods. It spread rapidly, and though the Fire Brigade worked hard, practically none of the contents were saved. The stock is valued at LSOOO. It was insured for £8100. New stock to the value of £1000 was uninsured. This Day. The dead body of a newly bora male infant was found in the Town Belt on Saturday evening. The body was without clothing, and partially wrapped in brown paper. Edmund Cook, late Chief Postmaster at Dunedin, died yesterday evening rather suddenly from a strained heart, owing to over exer tion at walking. The deceased, who was 68, retired on a pension two years ago. The police arrested Tho3. Stott, said to be a half-caste with Australian aboriginal blood in his veins, on a charge of being concerned in the murdor of Ham Sing Tong at Tapanui. The depositions of Bailey, who was injured at football on Saturday, have been taken. He he thinks he turned a kind of a somersault, and some players fell on him, and no blame is attachable to anyone. There is no change in his condition. Margaret Crosßan, a widow, residing in North East Valley, was found dead in bed yesterday morning. I
