WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held last evening. Present — Messrs ; Bridge (chairman), Lethbridge, Pirani, Baker, Adams, Spardle, Dixon, and Rev. J. Ross. Lytton Street — Separate, school district to be formed at Lytton street 1 , Mr Lethbridge to confer with Feilding Committee as to boundaries. Sewing Instruction - That a notice be sent to schools where the attendance is less than 40, and there is no female teacher, that if a suitable instructress can be. recommended, the Board will appoint a teacher of sewing in such schools and pay at the rate of 10s per annum on the average attendance at the sewing class, on condition that the requirements of the Government regulations are complied with. P. Matheson, re promotion ; name to go on when suitable vacancy occurs. Kimbolton — Matter of payment of capitation referred to the Chairman. Umutoi —Re establishment of school. Mr Lethbridge gave notice that he would move that the resolution passed atlast meeting that the Board establish two half-time schools at at Umutoi and Table Creek be rescinded, and a full-time school be erected at Umutoi. Rangiwahia — Application from P. H. Roache re erection of residence. Resolved, that the Board does not intend to build residence at Rangiwahia. Rongotea—Ee grant for drainage. Resolved, painting referred to Building Committee; blinds to be provided ; not to deal with drainage. School Reserves — The Chairman gave notice that he would move at next meeting that all rents from school reserves be in future paid to School Committees. Scholarships — The matter of granting scholarships was, after some discussion, left in the hands of the chairman. Complaints — From E. Goodbehere, re scholarship examinations. It was resolved that explanation be forwarded. Aorangi — Matter of establishing school held over till next meeting. The following tenders were accepted : — Oroua Bridge, Newth ; Makino, Banks. It was decided to, pay the Truant Inspector £80 in lieu of fines. The holidays of tbe Feilding school were fixed at four weeks. — Chronicle. Telegraph Press Association Copyright Wellington, December IS. la April last the Wanganai Education Board passed a resolution conveying a reflection on the teachers engaged in tbe. case which came before the Appeal Court, and copies were sent to the Minister of Education, the Eduoa tional Institute, and other Education Boards. The teachers took umbrage at the statements made in the resolution, and legal proceedings were threatened. The Board has since rescinded the resolution, expunged it from the minutes, and passed a resolution of regret at their action in plaoing the resolution on record.
