The conference of thegeneralcouncil of the Chambers of Commerce in the Commonwealth resolved that before Mr Barton adopts the proposal to enter into an agreement, while in London, with the Eastern Extension Cable Co., in reference to the charges for Eastern cables, it is desirable that the terms be communicated to the Council. A resolution was carried in favour of uniformity of holidays throughout the Commonwealth, omitting the eight hours day from the list of suggested general holidays. Sailed — Waikare. She takes an English mail. The passengers include large contingents for the Fiji excursion.
