FEILDING SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Feilding School Committee was held last night, when the following mem* bers were present:— Messrs J. G» Cobbe (chairman), R. H. Wilson, D. Haswell, F. Thompson, C. E. Tustin $ G. Harford, and W. J. Trewia (sec* retary.) Correspondence was read as fob lows : — From Secretary Wanganui Edu* cation Board, authorising certain re* pairs, including fencing ; also stating midwinter holidays had been fixed from June 28fch to July 19th. From Secretary Coronation Com* inittee, asking the Committee to permit the school cadets to take part in the torchlight procession, and stating that a sum of £18 had been voted to entertain the children at lunch. The headmaster of the High School reported that the average attendance was 325*2, and submitted the examination reports and schedules. The number in the Upper school is now 88. This afforded tha fullest justification for the raising of this school to the status of a District High School, which had been accomplished after many difficulties. In re-organising the school after the examination, he had kept in view the matter of devoting more time to the High School. The headmaster of the Lytton Street School reported that the aver* age attendance was— Boys 59*8, giria 44, total 103*8. The percentage of passes for the examination was 89. With the exception of three pupils the whole of those failing were either recently admitted or were irregular in their attendance. With reference to the proposed Coronation celebrations it was decided (1) That the school close for the holidays on the evening of Thursday, the 26th inst., and that all the teachers be asked to assist at the parades and luncheon ; (2) That the cadeis only take part in the morning procession; (8) That the cadets and whole school take part in the procession in the afternoon. The lnajoritjrof the Committee expressed their disinclination to allow the children or cadets to take part in the evening procession, and the^iugges* tion of the Coronation dmmitteo was therefore not adopted. With respect to the luncheon Messrs Cobbe, Wilson, and Trewin were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the catering, and a number of the committee, together with their wives; promised to assist. The Visiting Committees reported that they had found several repairs und improvements were 'necessary in both schools, and it was therefore decided to obtain permission from the Board to the; proposed works carried out. " ,■- * The following , were appointed visiting committees for the monthDistrict High School, Messrs Wilson and Tustin ; Lytton Street, School, Mr G* Harford and Bey. Innes Jones.
