CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held in the Council Chambers last evening, when the following members were present : — Messrs E, Goodbehere (President), Cobbe, and J. W. Bramwell, Vice-presidents Messrs Bartholomew, Neill, Wilson, J. C. Thompson, and Smith. The chairman (Mr Goodbehere) apologised for the absence of Messrs Sandilands and Carthew. As Mr J. H. Gilchrist had resigned his position as Vice-Presi-dent and chairman of the Holiday Committee, Air J. W. Bramwell was elected as chairman of the named committee, and the matter of the appointment of a Vice-President was held over until the annual meeting. Letters were read from the Post and Telegraph Department stating that fully prepaid telegrams would be received at the Railway Station from the public at an early date, and that it bad been decided to establish telegraph attendance at Feilding on holidays from 9 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. It was proposed by Mr Cobbe and seconded by Mr Bramwell that the Department be asked to keep the Telephone Exchange open until 10 p.m., and that the member for the district, Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, be re« quested to use his influence to obtain the desired concession. The motion was carried. The matter of the proposed railway to Kimbolton from Feilding was then discussed and on the motion of Mr J. W. Bramwell, it wag resolved that the Chamber tender its hearty co-operation with the Kiwitea County Council, and the Cheltenham and Kimbolton Farmers' Union in agitating far the construction of a light railway to Kimbolton or Apiti. Mr Goodbehere stated that with reference to the proposal for cutting np several properties around Cheltenham, he had been asked to call a public meeting in Feilding. It was resolved that the Chamber support Mr Goodbehere in calling a public meeting in Feilding to assist the action taken by the Cheltenham people in urging the Government to take properties at Cheltenham for close settlement. On the motion of Mr J. W. Branjwell, seconded, by Mr J. 0, ThQmp< son, it was decided to make a suggestion to the Borough Council that a sum of £150 be voted which, with Government subsidy, would make £300, and that the amount be expended in purchasing a site for a Public Library for Feilding, the foundation stone to be laid by the Mayor on Coronation Day. The question of Bank exchange was held over until the annual meeting. The business of the evening then concluded.
