The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette Published Daily. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 1902 A VALUABLE DISCOVERY.
A valuable discovery has been made at Moke Creek, about 120 miles from lnvercargill, of an . iron " blow " which must ultimately be of great importance to the district and to the colony at large. Mr White, the discoverer, is of the opinion that the mine will last for centuries and provide work for more men and boys than all the gold reefs in Otago put together. He forwarded the following information to the Minister of Mines : — " I beg to bring under your notice the great mineral wealth that is undeveloped at Moke Creek. I bagged one ton of ore, which was sent to the smelters and sold for £6 10s per ton for crude ore. I have lately found the greatest and most wonderful lode that it has been my lot to see. In my opinion it will be a greater benefit to the country than alluvial gold, when it has been opened up and worked, and will be classed as one of the great mines of the world. I should be very thankful indeed if you kindly send an expert to report on the find." It goes without saying that this request will be complied with, and we earnestly hope that the results will equal the most sanguine anticipations of the discoverer.
