A DISCOVERY OF COAL.
Telegraph Press Association Copyright Greymouth, April 15. At a meeting of the Harbour Board to-night, the foreman of the bore hole at Dobson reported that he had struck a seam of coal 4ft 9in thick, at 556 ft. After boring 12ft 6in he struck another seam 12ft thick, of splendid coal. He bored lift further, to make sure that he had got through it all. He does not think it much use going any further. The Board decided to push on with another bore about half a mile below Dobson. The unanimous opinion of the Board is that the discovery is of immense importance, as it points to the existence of an enormous field of the best coal at a moderate depth, and they quoted Mr McKay's opinion on the matter.
