THE MAYORAL ELECTION.
A deputation consisting of several influential citizens waited on Mr Goodbehere this morning and asked him to allow himself to be again nominated for the position of Mayor. It was urged that as Mr Goodbehere had initiated the proposed water supply scheme he was best qualified to carry it out to the end. In reply Mr Goodbehere stated that personally he did not desire re-election, but as there was sufficient evidence that the ratepayers were anxious to carry out the water proposals, he would gladly consent and comply with the wishes of the deputation. With reference to a paragraph which appeared in our issue of Saturday, in connection with the Mayoral election to the effect that Mr Walter Bailey would be a candidate, we have since learned that Mr Bailey's nomination has been withdrawn. It is notified by the Returning Ofiicer of the Borougb, Mr G. C. Hill, that Mr J. J. Bagnall and Mr E. Goodbehere have been nominated for the Mayoralty of the Borough. The election will take place on the 30th iustant. The contest promises to be an interesting one. Mi* Goodbehere was proposed by Mr W. A. L. Bailey and seconded by Mr W. A. Sandilands. Mr Bagnall was proposed by Mr Peter Thompson and seconded by Mr H. Jannings.
