LOCAL BODIES.

. • A meeting of delegates of adjacent local bodies, was held yesterday after the termination of the Hospital Board meeting to consider the advisability of guaranteeing a percentage of work to a road roller proposed to be imported by Mr J. Milverton and attached to his present traction engine. The following delegates were present — Messrs Pleasants (Manchester Road Board), Williamson (Kiwitea County Council), J. ii. Wilson (Manawatu County Council), and Haydon <P.N. Borough Council). The meeting was convened at the instance of the Manchester Road Board, and Mr Pleasants stated Mr Milverton had tendered the use of the engine, roller and men at £2 5s per day. It was desired the local bodies interested should guarantee two months work per year for five years, Manchester Road Board using the machine for five weeks and the other bodies one week each* The idea was generally approved of by those present, Mr Wilson stating he could practically accept the proposal provided the guarantee was for three instead of five. Eventually the meeting adjourned to enable Mr Milverton to decide if he could accept a guarantee on a three years' basis and to await answers from local bodies represented at the meeting. It was pointed out that present members of local bodies could not guarantee for five years ahead, that period being beyond their term of office-P.N. Times.
