Buchanan's bred by exhibitor, averaging in weight 64lbs to 721bs, 1 ; A. Harding's, averaging 65ilbs to 73^1bs. Two entries. FAT LAMBS. Five fat lambs for freezing purposes, block test: A. H. Russell's, bred by exhibitor, averaging 371bs to 41Albs, 1 ; J. H. McNiven's, bred by exhibitor, averaging 39lbs to 43£lbs, 2; F. S. Mcßae's, bred by exhibitor, averaging 351bs to 41£lbs, 3. In this class the average weight of lambs had to be 351bs to 421bs freezing weight. Quality was the chief consideration. DAIRY COWS. Ist £6, 2nd £3. Cow, any breed, in milk : H. G. In this class cows had their milk weighed and tested with the Babcock tester, and the cow whose milk yielded the largest profit was placed first. WOOD-CHOPPING COMPETITION. Ist prize, £15 (presented by Messrs McHarby Bros.) ; 2nd. £6 ; 3rd, £3 ; 4tb, £1. C. Hutton (Eltham) 1, time 6min2B£ sees ; C. W. Casey (Normanby) 2, time 7min 28secs ; C. A. Berkalin (Waipukurau) 3, time 7min 46secs; L. Berg (Konini) 4. There were eighteen competitors in this event and it proved one of the features of the day. The men were eagerly watched during the progress of the contest and the fall of Hutton's stump was the signal fora genuine outburst of applause, that was repeated when the second and third blocks fell also. The winner proved himself a splendid axeman and well deserved his win, the immeuse chip* lie took out of a solid log fairly astounding the maiority of the spectators. After the contest Hutton cut through another log to enable a cinematograph picture to betaken of the oneration. Sir Joseph Ward and a number of officials of the Association were also included in the picture. HUNTERS' COMPETITION. Over such jumps as the Stewards shall decide. Each horse to carry not less than 12st. A "Challenge Cup," valued at 30 guineas, presented by the ladies of the Manawatu and Rangitikei Districts, will be awarded the bona fide owner of the horse or horses winning the above contest three years. The Association will also give £10 as Ist prize ; £7 as 2nd prize ; and £4 as 3rd prize. Previous winners of Challlenge Cup: — 1893— Mrs E. D. Tanner's b m Alma 1893- Mrs E. D. McKenzie, Palmereton N., and 3. Prouse, Levin, each guessed the cot* rect weight. Tickets sold totalled 430. In the five fat sheep weight-guessing competition, the total weight of tbe animals was 433£1 b, Mr G Copplestone, Elthsm, guessing 441£1 b, Ist ; and O. 8 C. Dermer. Feilding, 447£1 b. The weight of the sheep in tbe single-sheep competition totalled 1781 b, and R. O. Noedl, Woodville, 177£1 b, and D. Campion, Manakao. Manawatu Line, 177$ lb. each guessed tbe same. 4 Singer sewing machine, valued at £13 13s, presented by the Company, was awarded as the first prize in the single, bullock competition, 2nd prize £2. In the five-sheep competition, the first prize was £5, 2 nd prize £2, and in tbe latter £8 and £2. The prize awards are continued on tbe fourth page.
