The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 1900. PROCRASTINATION.

Ten weeks have passed since Parliament met and so far little of the real work of the session has been don*-, but the members of the Opposition cannot be blamed for this waste of time as they have carefully abstained frqm needless obstruction. Tbe followers of the Government are alone to blame. Such important measures as the Public Health Bill, the Industrial Concilia r ion and Arbitration Bill, the Slaughtering and Inspection Bill and the Orchard and Garden Pests Bill have yet to go through their moßt debatable stages, while the Fair Rent Bill, the Native Land Administration Bill and the Young Persons' Protection Biil have yet to come before the tluuae, cot to speak of the Tariff Bill, tbe Estimates, t>oth consolidated and supplementary, which include tbe whole subject of the North Island Main Tr ;ok railway, and the Bills dealing with tho question of local Government.

The Opposition adopted the same tactics regarding the Financial Statetnent debate as they observed in connection with the debate on the Address-in-Kojily and abstained from takiug part in >he discussion, which ,vus brought to hd unexpectedly early end. Their reason ia that it woud be a waste of time to discuss the State ment at any leu«;th as i*s most important features will cotne before the House in the form of Bills. The debate only lasted for two hours — the shorieot on re.vud.
