-O : The monthly meeting of the Feilding Borough Council was held last evening. Present— The Mayor (Mr E Goodbehere), Crs R F Haybittle, 0 Carr, W Q Haybifctle, F F Haggitt, G W Fowles, W Dickson, and J .0 Thompson. "■■.'• Correspondence) was iecaived and deait with aa folio iva ; — From A Richmond, asking that the water table in Derby street be cleaned out — Referred to Public Works Committee with power to act. From Secretary General Post offic9 stating that a daily mail service between Feilding and Carnarvon, via Rongotea, Sandon, and Awaburi, had been arranged as from January let next. From Finance Committee, a report recommending that accounts amounting to £158 16s 2d be passed for payment. — Passed with exception of three accounts which were referred back for explanation by the Engineer. From Borough Inspector, a report From C Oarr, applying for renewal^ of auctioneer's license - Granted. ~ The Public Works Committee recommended that thQ request for a footpath in Denbigh street be deferred ; that the footpaths in Manchester Square be tarred and sanded ; that a lawn mower be obtained ; that a progress payment of £40 be made on account of asphalting footpaths. They reported that the footpath in Fergusson street had not yet been put iv a satisfactory condition.— Adopted. Cr Dickson presented a petition from J. Oobbe and twenty-one other ratepayers, requesting that that part of Fergusson street between Denbigh and Derby streets be forfied and metalled. — Resolved Crs Dickson— ft. F. Haybittle), That tenders be called for the work! Alterations were made on rate roll as desired. From N. Gorton applying for an auctioneer's license. -Granted, From J. Jacobsen, asking permission to erect sign board in Bowen street. — Granted subject to usual conditions. From R. fl. Wilson, asking that an approach be made to his property in West street. — Referred, to Public Works Committee with power to act. From Wesley an Church trustees applying for use o£ Council room, for the meeting of the annual district synod on December 11, 12, and 13, their schoolroom being occupied by the State School. — Granted. From F. Flavall, applying for per- ■ mission to remove building from Fergusson street.— Granted at his own risk. From F. J. Murbagh, claiming com- ' pensation lor injury to his child owing to timber belonging to Messrs Bartholomew Bros , and which was alleged to be .stacked on Kinabolton road, fall- ' ing on her,— The Borough solicitor gave it as his opinion -that the Borough was not liable. .Resolved (Ors Haggitfc —W. &. Haybittle)— That the Council, while sympathising with Mr Murtagh, cannot see its way to make any compensation in respect of the accident to his daughter. It was decided to invite tenders for the hay on the recreation ground.Resolved, That the use of the Ovalbe granted to the Methodist Church for picnic purposes on New Year's Day on the usual terms. Resolved (Ors Haggitt' — Fowlea) That notice be given to all coutract- , ors under the Council, terminating their engagements as on March 31st, 1900. Resolved, That the dog tax for the ensuing year be fixed at 5s per dog.
