Mr MacGregor and Mr McKenzie.

o Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright Dunedin, November 28. Mr MacGregor, writing to the Premier on September 27th, declined re-appoint-ment to the Legislative Council because in the previous year ho received from Mr McKenzte a letter which referred to his action in the Council in such terms as to imply that because Mr MacGregor had not supported his land administra- " - " tion in a particular way it was his duty to resign. The writer felt sure the Premier would not 1 have taken up such a position, but to accept renomination from a Ministry of which Mr McKenzie is a leader, would be placing himself in a false position. The Premier replying on October the 14th, says : — He has no knowledge what transpired between Mr MacGregor and Mr McKerizie, therefore he was unable to express an opinion, but felt assured the latter would not desire from Mr MacGregor anything inconsistent with bis honor. or good of the colony. He regrets that anything had happened to distuvb such an old friendship, but as Mr MacGreger had evidently given the matter his fullest = consideration, nothing he could say or do. would alter the situation. In con-, elusion, he says, though he had a difference of opinion on political opinions, it was pleasant to know these in no way interfered with their personal respect for each othsr.
