Fielding JC. Spring Meeting.
The spring race meeting under the mspices of cf tbe Feilding Jockey Club sotumeaced to-day and will be continued to-morrow. The weather this morning was overcast and threatened rain, but as the day advanced the clouds disappeared, There is a good attendance and every probability that the meeting throughout will be a great success. Following are tbe results up to tbe time of our going to press : — Flying Handicap, of 50 soys, second horse 10 soys from the stakes ; six furlongs. 136 Mr P E Davies' Gowric, 7-13 (R Wallace^ 1 73 Mr W J Jorgensen's Osborne, 7-2 (A Neale) 2 12S Mr D P Barrett's The Miller, 7-10 (McConnon) 3 Also started 161 Sedgebvook S-9. Osborne and Gowrie led from the start, but the latter soon took up the running and won rather easily by about two lengths. Time, lmin 17 3-Dth sees. Totalisator, L.516. Dividend, L 2 19s. Maiden Plate, of 50sovs, second horse to receive 10 soys and third horso 5 soys from the stakes ; one mile and a distance. 50 Mr C Bath's Silverlock. 9-3 (C Carmont) ... ... ... 1 140 Mr T Bennett's Fiona, 8-12 (G Jenkins) 2 78 Mr J P Balcher's Puirai, 7-9 (W Raynor) ... ... ... 3 Also started 11 Handy Boy 9-0, 18 King's Guard 9-0, 68 Ika 8-12, 36 Sue"or 8 12, 5 Aotea 7-9, 27 Westguard 7-7. Westguard was left at the post. Passing the stand for the first time Sudor (who gave a lot of trouble at the post), King's Guard, Handy Boy, and Ika led in the order named. Going round the back of the course Silverloclv, I'unui -anti Fiona improved their positions, and the former going to the front led into the straight and after a closely contested finish secured the judge's verdict by a short length. Dividend, L 7 14s. fcT Andrews Handicap,, of 200 soys, second horse to receive 25 soys from tbe stakes, third horse to receive 10 soys from the stakes ; 1J miles. Mr J. George's Crusoe, 8-8 (J. Gallagher) 1 Mr J. Ayer's Ambrosia (J. Ayers) ... 2 Mr J. Blake's Daphne, 7-0 3 Also started — First Blood 8-13, Oracle 7 11, Jadoo 78, Toa 7-6. Won by half a length Time, 2min 48J sees. Dividend, L<2 18s.
